Based in Osaka, Masanori Kobayashi is one of Japan’s most renowned documentary photographers. Since his profoundly moving photographs of the 1984 Ethiopian famine he has been photographing refugee crises around the world, particularly recording the experiences of refugee children.

Kobayashi’s extended photo essays have included the shattering effects of landmines on civilians in Cambodia and the work of Mother Teresa in Calcutta. Several books have been published with Kobayashi’s photographs and he is currently working on a long term essay exploring the influence of Buddhism in Asia.
