When I returned I found Caroline had come home from hospital but was seriously ill. What little strength she had seemed to be needed just to breath. Caroline was losing her hearing and was becoming increasingly distant. The strain on the children had become evident as Patrick had become withdrawn, leaving Justine to take on caring for the younger children.
