The human cost of the US invasion of Iraq has been immense. Since the 2003 overthrow of Saddam Hussein more than 2000 US soldiers have been killed and an estimated 25,000 Iraqi civilians have lost their lives. The US led coalition find themselves fighting insurgents whose ability to attack US and Iraqi government forces remains undiminished. For Iraqis in Baghdad each day, each journey to work, each encounter with a friend, is fraught with risk and danger.
